CANON IC INFORMATION:
character name: Momo Hinamori
canon & medium: Bleach/Manga
species & appearance: Shinigami
1, 2, 3

Momo is a petite girl with soft brown eyes and hair pulled back into a bun. She usually wraps it up in a white cloth and keeps it together with a ribbon, but that's about it as far as accessories go. She usually has a calm expression and smile, but lately it's been replaced by stress and worry. Though she might look breakable, she's actually kick ass in fights; her uniform probably hides the muscle tone that's developed in her arms and legs.

age: Over 100 at least, physically late teens/early 20s at most.
world info: N/A
history: Not a bedwetter (character overview)
powers:
REIRYOKU ("SPIRITUAL POWER/ENERGY")
In Bleach, everyone (humans, hollows, and Shinigami) has a certain level of reiryoku or spiritual power stored in them that can allow them to see other souls/shinigami/hollows or perform attacks. Momo, being a Lieutenant, possesses a large amount of spiritual energy.

REIATSU ("SPIRITUAL PRESSURE")
Reiatsu is the spiritual pressure one's reiryoku exerts. The higher the reiryoku, the higher the reiatsu. Generally, someone with high reiatsu can actually overcome someone by having greater control and being able to exert it. Momo's reiatsu is a red color; all Lieutenant rank Shinigami have considerable reiatsu and can easily overpower most humans, hollows, and lower-rank shinigami.

KIDO ("DEMON ARTS")
A form of combat that utilizes different spells produced by reiryoku. It is stated in canon that kido is very difficult to master; in order to wield it effectively, one must memorize the different incantation for each spell (which is usually very long) while focusing on building up their reiryoku to power it. What Momo lacks in strength, she makes up for in skill: it takes a certain amount of creativity to use kido in combat and Momo is very creative. She has shown to be able to combine different spells on the fly to create her own, which makes her a tricky opponent in battle.

SWORDSMANSHIP
All shinigami in Soul Society are trained in zanjutsu, basically sword fighting. Being a Lieutenant means that Momo is well-versed in it (even if she may not be top-tier like Kenpachi), she's able to cross swords with other Lieutenant class shinigami and can hold her own in fights.

SHUNPO ("FLASH STEP"/"STEP METHOD"/"AGILITY")
Shunpo is basically a technique that allows the user to move from one destination to another in the least amount of steps. The main focus of this technique is speed; the faster the user, the less amount of steps they need to take. Masters of Shunpo are able to cross long distances in one bound. While Momo may not be a master of shunpo, she is fast enough to keep up with other Lieutenant and Captain rank Shinigami.

TOBIUME ("FLYING PLUM TREE")
Momo's zanpakuto is a fire-type. In its sealed state, Tobiume looks like a regular katana but once released (command: "snap, Tobiume") the blade straightens and grows two prongs (jutte) that makes it look kind of like a tree branch. Her zanpakuto's special ability is releasing large fire balls that explode on contact, which fits her very well considering her proficiency in kido. Momo has shown to use Tobiume in conjunction with different kido spells in unique ways to surprise opponents.

personality:
"I can't wait until I'm older. There's nothing great about being young. Being young means that you're still naive."

In a nutshell, Momo is probably one of the most tragic characters in the series. She goes through the most devastating events and has her beliefs and trust shattered time and time again, yet each time she is still able to pick herself up and keep going. Before the series really begins, Momo's life wasn't very easy: growing up in the district of Junrinan in Rukongai (what is considered the slums and poorer district of Soul Society), often meant relying on and taking care of herself, her adoptive grandmother, and the few friends she had. Despite the hardships, Momo was always a very positive being, always friendly and never without a smile on her face. Even when meeting Hitsugaya Tōshirō, she was able to develop a close sibling companionship with him despite his icy and intimidating demeanor.

One of Momo's biggest strengths lies in her ability to trust and believe in the people who are important to her, building bonds and helping further the potential of those individuals when they need it. She is kind, easy going, and approachable, taking the time to help and listen to others; it's how she's on good terms with many of the Captains and Lieutenants in Gotei 13. She believes everyone can succeed and do their best, and most of all has great expectations for everyone including herself. Momo is a big dreamer and always tries her best to get to where she wants to go: starting out in the Shinigami Academy, she immediately knew she wanted to be placed in the 5th Squad under Sōsuke Aizen's command, someone who she admired greatly. She worked extremely hard to achieve that goal and found her true calling in Kido, or Demon Arts, a very difficult set of abilities to master. Despite her aversion to violence and the fact that she is not as strong as most of the other Lieutenants, she is a very skilled tactician and knows how to play to her strengths. Her abilities in Kido reached to such a pinnacle that she was able to devise ways to use multiple spells in conjunction with each other (as well as her Zanpakutō), creating unique way in which to attack and incapacitate her opponents.

Yet, her dreams and aspirations, along with the unwavering trust she places in others also makes her a very easy target to manipulate.

"That's why it feels like you're soaring in the sky or sinking beneath the ocean when someone you admire betrays you. Those emotions control your entire life and can make you lose sight of who you are."

Perhaps the biggest flaw that Momo has is her naivety. She is portrayed to be quite impulsive and has reserves of anger hidden in her personality that she doesn't often show except in dire situations. She has a strong sense of right and wrong and abhors seeing anything undesirable happening to the people she cares about, to the point where she can go into a blind rage. However, at times she finds herself unable to handle situations were her loved ones are involved, leaving her feeling extremely conflicted; reflected in Aizen's betrayal in the Soul Society Arc.

The admiration she had for Aizen caused her to do many things and changed her whole perspective on her life and the relationships she had with her friends. She fought with Tōshirō (who had been framed for Aizen's murder by Aizen himself in a letter he had written for Momo before his death), something that took an immense toll on her because at the heart of it all, Momo hated violence and especially didn't want to fight with someone whom she had come to consider as a younger brother; someone she wanted to protect. It's important to note that at that point Tōshirō's strength surpassed Momo's greatly and he was also the youngest graduate to become Captain in the last 100 years, putting his skill level high above Momo's. Though she had known Tōshirō longer than Aizen, she didn't question his declaration and believe that he did, in fact, murdered Aizen. Throughout the fight she had felt helpless in that she truly did not want to hurt Tōshirō. It can be said that because of this, Momo is emotionally vulnerable, especially when it comes to Aizen. It also goes to show that Momo will go through extreme lengths to protect her loved ones, to the point where she would abandon herself and give up everything to protect that one person. Even when faced with impossible enemies and horrendously outmatched, she would never hesitate to help and defend.

Due to her devotion to Aizen, his betrayal broke her mental state and caused a deep wound in her psyche. It took a very long time for her to accept that Aizen was not the same Aizen she knew so many years ago. His attempt on her life was perhaps the ultimate breaking point, yet she still begged for his life after regaining consciousness. At that point, it was obvious that Momo's mentality was devastated and everything she believed and trusted in was shattered. Her mental state was not entirely unexpected, though, given her idolization of Aizen.

Although in the current chapters she had finally recovered enough to fight the Arrancar with her peers, it was still questionable whether or not she still believed that Aizen is a good person instead of the enemy, due to the fact that she still referred to him as Captain. Despite her weaknesses, Momo is strong when she needs to be and will not hesitate to put her life on the line to protect the people she cares about.

"By growing older, your heart grows more experienced. You grow one step further away from being controlled by your feelings and are able to keep from soaring through the sky or sinking to the depths of the ocean. That's what it means to grow older."

Basically, Momo is a sweet soul with an upbeat personality. It doesn't take much to keep her happy; as long as the people she cares about are safe, she couldn't ask for anything more. She has a warm personality that invites people to get to know her better no matter who they are. Occasionally, she tends to get worried a lot, yet she does her best not to show it as to not cause a burden to those who care about her. With Momo, it's always others before her and it carries into the way she tends to almost fuss around her friends. She has a big heart and has a genuine desire to help and care for others, something that will never change no matter how many times she gets betrayed. It's an inherent part of who she is and ultimately, something she will never give up.

AUSLOSEN IC INFORMATION:
character name: Momo Hinamori
appearance: Still petite but keeps her hair in a side braid or ponytail, sometimes in a messy bun minus the cloth and ribbon. Definitely on the thinner side but with a bit more obvious muscle tone. There's a couple faint scars on her sides and along the outer and inner parts of her thighs, remnants of her foster father.
age: 21
history:
Like many other children in Auslosen, Momo's life was far from perfect. Raised by a single mother with weak lungs was no easy task, especially with the sheer amount of pollution in the air. Obtaining the medicine required to treat her mother's illness was difficult and her mother usually went without taking it, saving the money to use for food and rent to keep the roof above their heads. Though their situation was stressful, her mother loved her very much and did the best she could to ensure Momo was healthy. When Momo turned ten, her mother finally succumbed to her illness and passed away, leaving her with a tin box of her savings. With no other family to go to and without a means of surviving on her own, Momo was taken into the foster system where she was adopted by a family a few months later.

A couple years passed this way: Momo was a good girl and kept her head down, going to school when she was told and doing her homework every night after dinner. Her adoptive parents mostly left her to her own devices, giving more attention to their biological daughter instead, who often picked on Momo and took advantage of her quietness. While her foster family did make sure she ate, most of Momo's necessities were purchased on her own with the money her mother left for her; other things such as clothing were given to her by her adoptive sister when she outgrew them. However, things took a turn for the worse again when Momo was twelve and came home one day to find her parents dead in their living room, her adoptive sister hiding under the bed with a deep cut on her arm. With nothing left to salvage and all their valuables taken by the loan sharks that killed her foster parents, Momo wrapped up her sister's arm in a towel and took her to the nearest clinic to hopefully get her treated.

It was while waiting in the lobby of the run-down clinic when she decided that she wanted to become a doctor, gripping her sister's hand tightly and feeling helpless watching her face becoming more and more pale, just like she felt watching her mother become sicker by the day. Fortunately, the fact that Momo was able to act quickly saved her sister's arm and she was spared from amputation, left with a line of rough stitches instead. Afterwards, her sister's aunt came to pick her up and Momo was sent back to the foster system to find a new family.

Momo was tossed from one home to the next during the year after her foster parents' murder, her new parents always sending her back once they found out about her previous family. No one wanted to have anything to do with debt collectors, especially with the child whose family could still owe money. While it was a lonely life, Momo didn't seem to mind too much, absorbing herself in her studies and her aspiration to become a doctor. She spent most of her time at school and at various bookstores, looking up books on the human anatomy and various other medical textbooks to learn as much as she could. Things changed again the year she turned fourteen, when one of her foster fathers began drinking and sexually abusing her. It started slowly: he would ask Momo to do small things for him at first, such as rubbing his shoulders or feet when he came home late at night. While Momo was wary, he would always praise her for her gentle hands and how good she made him feel afterwards and it made her happy -- something she hadn't felt in a very long time. It made her eager to please him more and, sensing that eagerness, her foster father quickly escalated the intensity of the favors he would ask of her.

It wasn't until her foster father nearly raped her one night that she finally decided to fight back, knocking him out with a glass bottle before taking his money and running away. With no where to go, Momo stayed on the streets and at school, lingering on campus until the janitors kicked her out. She survived on meager supplies of food, loathe to spend the rest of her mother's and foster father's money in case she needed it. On a particularly cold night, an elderly acupuncturist stumbled upon Momo and took her in, letting her sleep in the small flat above the clinic. In return, Momo helped out in the clinic after school and learned the skills of the trade, picking it up a lot more quickly than expected.

While the clinic did fairly well, especially after Momo's help to take the load off the acupuncturist, supplies were hard to come by due to their constant shortage in funds. Eventually, Momo took matters into her own hands and started stealing supplies, breaking into other clinics and hospitals at night and taking whatever they needed the most. Despite it being dangerous, Momo did it without complaint, feeling it was the least she could do for the elderly lady she had taken to calling "grandmother". If her grandmother suspected anything of her night time routines, she never said anything and would instead give Momo a sad smile and a hug, whispering her thanks her in her ear. It filled Momo with the sense of happiness and acknowledgement she longed for, and things progressed the same until she turned seventeen and was approached by a few gang members after school.

They told her they needed her help treating another gang member's wounds, that they would pay her if she agreed, and that they would burn down her grandmother's clinic if not. Momo agreed without hesitation and, despite still being new to treating wounds, patched him up well. The same gang called her again a few weeks later and it soon became a routine, the injuries of the men becoming more severe than the last. It seemed as long as she was able to keep them alive, she did her job right and they sent her off with a couple wads of cash. Eventually, they asked her to do different things aside from treating wounds, using her skill in acupuncture to extract information for the gang during interrogations. It was here that she met Grimmjow, the person whom the gang hired as muscle, and they would often pair them up with the job of getting information or anything else the gang wanted. While she never liked doing them, the gang paid her well and she (sort of) got to know Grimmjow, whose blunt and direct nature provided a respite from the lies and meaningless words she had dealt with her whole life.

During the month after she graduated high school, Grimmjow disappeared and the gang told her that they didn't require her services anymore, sending her off with a thick envelope of cash to keep her quiet. Before they could change their minds to keep her quiet permanently, Momo and her grandmother moved that same night across the city, opening a smaller clinic on the second floor of a tower using the money the gang had given her. In the years after that, Momo worked in the clinic and managed to get an internship at another hospital to try to save up money for medical school. Things finally seemed normal again, at least until the dreams began.

personality:
In canon, Momo naivety is, more often than not, her downfall and perhaps her greatest weakness. However, her life in Auslosen has forced her to abandon that: being exposed to the uglier parts of humanity on a regular basis has pushed Momo to toughen up considerably from a young age. Like her canon self, Momo is still kind and very much approachable, yet she is infinitely more wary of people she meets and is not nearly as quick to trust them. Though she does have difficulty refusing others due to the nature of her fix, Momo is just as (if not more) resourceful as her canon self, always looking for an escape route or a way to fight back and protect herself. On the same vein, while her canon self abhors violence and never seems willing to inflict pain, in Auslosen Momo recognizes that violence and crime is part of daily life and will not hesitate to fight back when she senses danger. When it comes down to it, Momo looks out for herself and her grandmother first and if it means hurting someone and dealing with the massive amount of guilt later, she will do it.

Due to the hardships she had to endure in her life in Auslosen, Momo is not only stronger physically, but mentally as well. Unlike her canon self, Momo is not nearly as impulsive and quick to anger, able to remain calm and keep a level head in many stressful situations. This also makes her less shy around people as opposed to her canon self, putting the maturity her canon self had to the forefront of her demeanor. She is also a lot more patient with others, which stems from her desire to get to know someone and their true nature before placing her trust in them. This does not mean Momo is unfriendly, she is still just as warm and polite with everyone as her canon self, but there is a vague sense of being kept at a distance with people she meets. Momo keeps to herself, and unless she trusts someone enough to let them in, everyone will be kept at an arm's length.

job: A paid, part-time intern in a mid-level hospital and a receptionist at a ground floor acupuncturist clinic.

fix:
Momo's actual fix is overcoming her fear of being useless, especially when it comes to helping others, and her hunger for acknowledgement. This can manifest itself in a few ways: a simple "thank you" would make her feel good, praise would make her feel even better, with the best fix coming from people that are harder to get praise from or whom she respects the most. Since her fix is relatively easy to get, she's usually set for a while if she does a few favors in a week and if she does manage to get praise from say, someone like Grimmjow whom she admires greatly, she would probably be set for at least a few weeks to a month.

It could also manifest in the type of favors she does for someone in conjunction to the praise; the more illicit the favor, the better the fix.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLES:

third person:
The first thing that hit her was the fear; Matsumoto bleeding in front of her, a gaping hole in her side. She had seen and experienced numerous amounts of bruises and wounds in her lifetime - some shallow, some deep, but she had never seen this before. The pain visible on Matsumoto's face made her hands shake and Momo wished she didn't have to feel it at all. A cold, clammy vice settled around her heart and she knew if she didn't do something soon, Matsumoto would die... and that was something she couldn't take. She had already come to terms with Aizen, if she lost her friend as well, she didn't think she could handle it or accept it.

The next thing that hit her was the pain. Vaguely, she realized it punched her exactly in the same place that Aizen had stabbed her. It seemed so long ago, but the pain didn't change. She couldn't move, couldn't fight back and the vice around her heart tightened even more. But Kira -- Kira was there and she didn't want to be healed. "Rangiku-san. Rangiku-san first."

As she lay next to Kira, the number of wounded slowly increasing around them, she looked up at Aizen; still and towering like a fallen god above them, serene smile ever present on his face. Her heart threatened to crush itself and she couldn't help but choke out a sob, head clouded and chest hurting and aching. Her hopes that Aizen would turn around and help them weren't going to happen and the thought of it hurt even more than the wounds she had. She still couldn't understand and a part of her still didn't want to understand, the part of her that was weak, that still wanted things to go back to the way they were. No matter how hard she tried, she didn't think she could ever take that side of her away.

But despite it all, Momo closed her eyes. And wished.

She woke with a start, fingers clutching the sheets and heart fluttering in her chest. Her eyes focused on the concrete ceiling above her, the blue from the open sky in her dreams flickering behind her eyelids every time she closed them and it was such a strange sight -- the streets of Auslosen were always so dark, she never knew the sky could be so bright, so vibrant. It almost hurt to remember it.

She sat up from her cot with a deep breath, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she looked to her right, watching the soft rise and fall of her grandmother's chest on the cot next to her. Fingers shaking, she clenched her hands and quietly headed to the bathroom, taking a moment to stare at her face in the mirror: pale and damp from the remnants of her dream. She could still remember the pain in her gut, the burning, wet feeling from the blood in her mouth; she could still recall the face of the woman in her dream, deathly white, expression twisted in pain. Momo gripped the sink tightly her in hands, keeping her eyes open and waited for the nausea to pass. She couldn't let her dreams keep affecting her like this, she needed to get a grip. Her grandmother still needed her.

She closed her eyes tightly, pushing away her thoughts and splashing water on her face. Later, she told herself, I'll figure it out... and the phone, later. With another deep breath, she headed outside, taking out the phone a regular patient had handed to her and placing it under her pillow.

I'll figure it out tonight. I promise.

first person:
Isn't it a little strange to have the same dream about yourself over and over again, doing the same things, but you don't remember actually doing it? Isn't it a little... scary? I don't know about you, but I feel like maybe I'm living a double life. How do we know what is real and what isn't? What if I've been living a lie my whole life? If that's true, why am I only remembering it now? Every time I think about it, the world feels even bigger than it is.

[ there's a small laugh, quiet and a little hesitant. ]

Sorry! That was weird. In any case, it's nice to meet you, I'm Momo. I'm glad I'm not the only one with these dreams.
